Where do you fill up?
I regularly fill up at a petrol station in Grantham St Brunswick West. It's a privately owned suburban station & I beep my horn to attract the attention of the attendant (who knows me & my car). Sometimes I have to wait a few minutes while other customers are attended to at the checkout.
The petrol price here is always much higher than at the big company stations.
I recently heard of a station out Burwood Road (I think from memory) which is closing because of council pressure with regards to the driveway service they have been providing to people who have difficulties filling by themselves.
How do you cope?
Where do you fill-up & what special arrangements are there?

It's sad that the number of petrol stations that serve petrol to customers is getting smaller and smaller.
What I do when I'm running low on petrol is I drive into any petrol station (I do also use my regular petrol stations where they know me). If someone else is filling up, I ask them to put some petrol in my car, but if I sense they are in a hurry I'll ask them to mention that I am disabled and need help when they go in to pay their bill.
I've also drivin into servoes where no one was around. In this situation I toot my horn and wave to the attendent inside (I can imagine that sometimes they are probably thinking "What's this dope waving for?". I then show them my disabled parking label or one of my wheelchair wheels. When they see my label or my wheelchair wheels, they click that I'm disabled and need help.
It's all good fun.

For those drivers in the Eastern suburbs l know of a service station on Mt. Dandy Rd Croydon who still does a full driveway service. Its the Ampol on the left just past Main St. Drive in and he will come and serve you, you might have to wait a few minutes the first couple of times, but when he gets to know you and your car, it will become a lot quicker.http://www.aqavic.org.au/forum/icon_smile_cool.gif

The petrol station is on the cnr. Nicholson & Miller St Brunswick.
The petrol station price is ok.

I used to go to places that serve you but as a C6 quad getting out and about, sometimes i have been stranded with the need to fill up and have discovered it isnt so bad.
Ok it took me 10 mins to figure out how to remove the fuelcap the first time but its all good now.,

Persistance will go along way

I have had the same problem as well, so I phoned the manager of the local Woolworths and ask why they could'nt fill my car up, he explained that they only have 1 attendant. I explained thet they lure you into the supermarket with the cheap petrol and give you a voucher for that, but make no effort for disabled people.
I witnessed an older lady pressing the petrol gun lever and putting the fuel cap under the lever to hold it, as she had bad arthritis and didn't have the strength to hold down the lever for a full tank of petrol, the attendant turned the pump off every time she did this. What am trying to say that they make NO allowance for ANY or ALL people with a disability. What we need to do is alert the self serv stations that they are removing our rights to get fuel as every other Australian does. If a group of wheelies drove into a self serv and blocked all lanes until recieving satisfaction they may start to take notice. The manager at my local Woolies was helpfull, when I explained the terms discrimination to him. I see that we are having problems with disabled parking, maybe we should keep fuel stations on our list too. Remember as the self serv gets bigger the smaller private stations are being squeezed out of business, and in the future where will we all go, start looking at it now, and make a noise. Stevo
