AQA’s fundraiser “Around the lake without a brake" was held on Sunday the 22nd of October 2006 at Albert Park Lake . We are happy to report that the day turned out to be great fun.
Geelong Legend Billy Brownless and Channel Seven/Herald Sun reporter Neil Kearney kept the crowd amused and informed throughout the day.
It was great to see all those people participating, some with their whole family, in the 5km leisurely walk around the lake. Even Billy Brownless surprised himself by getting around the lake in good time. Special mention must go those who made the effort to support the event by travelling from regional Victoria .
After the walk, everyone mingled while enjoying the BBQ. Following the BBQ was the handball competition, hosted by Billy, which went into overtime. It was a close contest with our very own Simon Damevski coming second. We have to mention though that Simon actually ended up winning the competition because the first place getter was disqualified (he wasn’t eligible because he didn’t pay to be part of the event).
Thanks must also go to Wheelchair Sports Victoria and the athletes for organizing the handcycling and rugby demonstrations in the afternoon. The kids loved it!
Hopefully we can continue to hold this event on a yearly basis and see many more members join us.
